EOTC - Murphy's Bush

The Pukeko Team had a wonderful day out at Murphy's Bush last Friday. We were very lucky with the weather - it was perfect! Each class was split into six groups to rotate around different activities that had been set up by the Auckland Council Rangers. Each child got to participate in:
  1. Blind-fold Burma Trail (definitely a favourite!)
  2. Bush Art with Miss Chalmers
  3. Games with Miss Glen
  4. Shelter Building
  5. Flora and Fauna Clue Find
  6. Bush Walk with a Ranger
This was a valuable day, that taught the children lots about survival and safety in the bush. Here are a few photos of our bush art:

Science - Fun Friday

Our Fun Friday focus this term is Science and we have been learning all about states of matter. As a fun way of learning about solids, liquids and gases, we have been doing experiments involving food - yum!

The particles in different states of matter
Here is some of the vocabulary we have learnt already:
  • states of matter
  • particles
  • bond
  • solid
  • liquid
  • gas
  • dissolve
Here is a video of us making hokey pokey and lemonade with Mrs Martin:

(Thanks Mrs Martin!)

We made marshmallows with Miss Chalmers. We beat the mixture until it turned from a liquid into a solid.

Next week Room 15 will be going to visit Miss Glen and Miss Pulman - we can't wait!

Kayne's Best Day Ever!

"When it was lunch time, Eashwar was building a volcano. He told me to build one next to him. I listened and Mrs Notley said that she was proud of me for playing nicely. She gave me a gold coin for the House Points outside the staffroom. When it was the afternoon, I told Miss Chalmers my tooth was wiggly. I was worried it would hurt when it came out. I went to the bathroom and I wiggling it with my tongue. It popped out and it almost landed in the drain! I was happy. It didn't hurt at all!" - by Kayne

Celebration and Production

Yesterday was the Pukeko Team Celebration. Thank you to those parents who could make it along to watch. For those who couldn't, here is a video of Room 15's presentation. We sang "The Silly Hat Song" and shared our "Only One You" fish art. Happy viewing!

Last week we posted some photos from the production dress rehearsal. Here are more photos of the actual night, courtesy of Ms Fothergill. Didn't we look fantastic??

The Week That Was

Wowee, things have been pretty busy 'round here lately! We haven't had a blog post in a little while; to make up for it, here is a glimpse at some of the things we have been up to:

Athletics Day
Our annual Reremoana School Athletics Day was a huge success, despite the patchy weather. A big thank you to all the parents who helped out on the day, we truly couldn't have done it without you.

"We are the World" Reremoana School Production - Dress Rehearsal at Clayton Park

If the weather couldn't stop Athletics Day from going ahead, we certainly wouldn't let it stop us from getting down to Clayton park for our dress rehearsal! We ended up catching a bus, and a great day was had by all.

Art - "Only One You"
Have you seen our new display? We made fish art inspired from the book "Only One You" by Linda Kranz (this is a really special book about making your way in the world). We will also be making rock fish too (thank you to parents who have been sending Resene coupons in!) There will be another blog post about this coming soon.
